Title: "Long Black Veil"
Artist: the Band
Album: Music from Big Pink
I'm pretty sure that this isn't in the same key as the one on the record, but it's easier for me to sing along with this key for some reason. I think this is a folk song; it was written by Marijohn Wilkin and Danny Dill. An Irish band called the Cheftains do a really great version of this same song with Mick Jagger doing the lead vocals.

There were few at the scene and they all did agree

That the man who ran looked a lot like me.

The judge said, "Son, what is your alibi?

If you were somewhere else then you won't have to die."

I said not a word though it meant my life,

I had been in the arms of my best friend's wife.
A minorAm E MajorE A minorAm E MajorE
She walks these hills in a long black veil.
A minorAm E MajorE A minorAm E MajorE
She visits my grave when the night winds wail.
E MajorE A minorAm E MajorE E MajorE BB A minorAm
Nobody knows, no, and nobody sees; nobody knows but me.
E MajorE
The scaffold was high and eternity near
BB A minorAm E MajorE
She stood in the crowd and shed not a tear
E MajorE
But sometimes at night when the cold wind moans
BB A minorAm E MajorE
In a long black veil she cries over my bones.
She walks these hills in a long black veil
She visits my grave where the night winds wail.
Nobody knows, no, and nobody sees; nobody knows but me.
