Goodbye Booze
Charlie Poole

This is my arrangement of this old country song recorded by Charlie Poole in 1926.
The original was played on banjo. You can strum the chords but it sounds better
using a picking pattern with a lively country feel. The original recording can be
found on YouTube along with a number of covers.

The chords in brackets are optional and should be played as beats 3 and 4 before
returning to the major chord for the next bar. I have only formatted this on the
chorus but the same pattern should be played throughout. The optional chords are
tabbed at the bottom of the page but they are really quite simple modifications to
the major chord.

The lower case letters represent a walk up from G to C and should be played on the
bass strings i.e. g = 6th string 3rd fret, a = 5th string open, b = "5th string
2nd fret. They should be played as beats 2,3 and 4 of the preceding G chord.

Chorus:
           C (CaddG) C G (Gsus4) G
Oh goodbye booze, forever more
           D7(D7sus4) D7 G (Gsus4) G
My boozin' days will soon be o'er
G A B C G (Gsus4) G
I had a good time, but we couldn't agree
                D7(D7sus4) D7 G (Gsus4) G
So you see what booze has done for me

G A B C G
Well she tore my clothes, she swelled my head
           D7 G
So goodbye booze I'm goin' to bed
             C G
I had a good time, but we couldn't agree
                D7 G
So you see what booze has done for me

Chorus
                    C G

Well she slammed my head, she broke my heart
           D7 G
So goodbye booze, it's time we part
             C G
I had a good time, but we couldn't agree
                D7 G
So you see what booze has done for me

Chorus
                   C G
Well she whispered low, how sweet it sounds
                       D7 G
Won't you take another ride, on the merry-go-round
                C G
Oh I had a good time, but we couldn't agree
                D7 G
So you see what booze has done for me

Chorus
