Heathen by Live

Tabs

This tab is largely based on the live version of the song, which features guitarists
Gerry Leonard and Earl Slick. There's also a lot keyboard textures provided by Mike Garson,
Catherine Russell and Mark Plati, but they can be easily arranged from the song's chords.

During the intro, Gerry Leonard creates a loop using these three riffs on top of each other:

e--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B---9---------8---------9---------8---------9---------9----11--------------|
G--------8---------8---------8---------8---------8--------------8--10--8---|
D-----11---11---11---11---11---11---11---11---11---11---11-----------------|
A--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E--------------------------------------------------------------------------|

e---9---8-------------------------|
B----------9---8---9----8--11-----|
G---------------------------------|
D---------------------------------|
A---------------------------------|
E---------------------------------|

e-----------------------------|
B-----------------------------|
G-----------------------------|
D---3---3---3---3---3---3-----|
A-----6---6---6---6---6---6---|
E-----------------------------|
At "made for a real world" Earl Slick comes in with a distorted riff, with lots of feedback:

e-------------------|-----------|-------------------|
B-------------------|-----------|-------------------|
G-------------------|-----------|-------------------|
D-------------------|---(x 4)---|-------------------|
A-------------------|-----------|-------------------|
E---3h4-4-4-3h4-4---|-----------|---1---3---1---3---|

The same riff is repeated at "have I stared too long?"

At the end, two measures after the clapping begins, Slick finishes his part with four
strums on a Chord diagramAbAb chord, also with lots of feedback.

Leonard then comes in with this riff (with a capo on the 2nd fret):

e---------------2----------------1---|
B-------0---0------------0---0-------|
G-----3---3---3--------3---3---3-----|
D---4----------------3---------------|
A------------------------------------|
E------------------------------------|

He plays around with this riff and creates a new loop from it. As the bands end the
song, he records part of his intro sequence over it, dissolving the loop in distortion and
effects before concluding the song.

e--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B---9---------8---------9---------8---------9---------9----11--------------|
G--------8---------8---------8---------8---------8--------------8--10--8---|
D-----11---11---11---11---11---11---11---11---11---11---11-----------------|
A--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E--------------------------------------------------------------------------|

e---9---8-------------------------|
B----------9---8---9----8--11-----|
G---------------------------------|
D---------------------------------|
A---------------------------------|
