"Smashing" by Lincoln from the self-titled album. Transcribed by Randall Leeds This is a beatiful little song off an outstanding 90s rock album. No effects are required. It sounds great on an accoustic. Capo 3rd Fret Bb F Gm7sus2 Eb |g --3---2-----3-------3--| |D --3---3-----3-------3--| |Bb--0---2-----0-------0--| |F --0---0-----0-------0--| |C -(2)--------2-------2--| |G --3---------0-------3--|
The (2) in the Bb is optional. You'll see later why it's a little tricky to get it (you need fingers for chord variations). I usually just mute it with the finger on that's on the low string. Intro (play once): Bb F Gm7sus2 Eb Verse (rest of song): Bb The bicycle was built for two F Prone to giving blacks and blues Gm7sus2 Jumping fences to the pool Eb The police man was rarely cool Gm7sus2 Davy Crocket's box was found Eb Filled with granny smith apples Bb The car was fire engine red....etc The song is pretty straightforward, with no chorus or other change. A couple things to think about: 1) Listen to the song to get the timing, it's really not bad. 2) There are many hammer-ons and pulloffs that are pretty key. Here they are: Bb(6) Bb(maj7) F(sus4) Gm7(sus2) |g --3--- --3p2-- --2h3- --2h3--| |D --3--- --3---- --3--- --3----| |Bb--0--- --0---- --2--- --0----| |F --0h2- --0---- --0--- --0----| |C -(2)-- -(2)--- ------ --2----| |G --3--- --3---- ------ --0----| The Bb6 is there only for a split second. Just hammer on and take your finger right off again. Just listen for the hammers and pulloffs in the song. They're easy to hear because, with the exception of the Bb, the note changing is the highest note, on the g string. I can't find a good way to finger both Bb variations together, so feel free to use whichever you like better, and listen to the song. Finally, there are some little runs (possibly bass guitar) that I didn't transcribe. Sorry about that. I'll figure them out sometime. Hopefully this should get your started. -Randall
