Tuning: Standard (E A D G B E)
Intro:
C G F Am
Verse:
Am C G
Sigurd was an Odin man, the last of Pagan Kind
D Am G
for churchmen ruled the country side, and all men they could find.
C F G E
But Sigurd prayed to Odin God with heart and soul and mind
C G F Am
in hopes that he would reach Valhalla.
C G F Am
Am C G
Sigurd died in battle crying Odin to the last
D Am G
beyond the reach of churchmen’s Heaven his soul speeded past
C F G E
But when he reached the Bifrost bridge, he found the gates barred fast
C G F Am
Alas, no entry to Valhalla
C G F Am
Am C G
Odin’s voice called to him then, “The gate I’ll not unbar!
D Am G
For we are under siege, with churchmen’s Heaven we’re at war
C F G E
Yet I shall keep my pledge to you, though you must wander far
C G F Am
Still I shall bring you to Valhalla”
C G F Am
Am C G
The Winds of time took Sigurd then and whipped him down the years,
D Am G
They burned away his memories of love, and hope, and fears
C F G E
And left him as a new born babe whose foremost cryin’ tears
C G F Am
were for lost promise of Valhalla
C G F Am
Am C G
This age and name fit ill on him, he grew to man’s estate
D Am G
a thoughtful, bookish, lonely lad who felt betrayed by fate
C F G E
who dreamed, and read, and of’t regretted he was born too late
C G F Am
for the Age of Odin and Valhalla
C G F Am
Am C G
Then he came upon Anachronists who kept the ancient skills
D Am G
Gladly did he join with them and practiced with a will
C F G E
For he felt an old hope stirring as he persisted still
C G F Am
a long step closer to Valhalla
C G F Am
Am C G
He called himself Lord Sigurd now, he dressed in Black Bear skin
D Am G
He hastened through his duties to his mundane work and kin
C F G E
For in the weekend combat he could feel the veil wear thin
C G F Am
‘til it seemed he could almost reach Valhalla
C G F Am
Am C G
In time he won a Baron’s rank, the folk bowed down before
D Am G
At length a Herald rose and said “Milord, you could do more.
C F G E
Pray bring your skills with us this year out to the Eastern War
C G F Am
It’s the next best thing to Old Valhalla!”
C G F Am
Am C G
So Sigurd went to war that year and stared at what he found
D Am G
The ancient garbed and armored folk, the clanging battleground
C F G E
The market place, the mead halls, and the campsites sprawling ‘round
C G F Am
and he felt time shift him to Valhalla
C G F Am
Am C G
For look! The warriors battled there so merrily all day
D Am G
and maidens resurrected every one the strokes would slay
C F G E
then at the Mead Hall they would feast and sing the night away
C G F Am
aahh it fit all descriptions of Valhalla
C G F Am
Am C G
Twas true, it wasn’t perfect, there was war but twice a year
D Am G
with lesser revels once a month in Kingdoms far and near
C F G E
and all the dreary lesser days the mundane world was here
C G F Am
but it was close enough to call Valhalla
C G F Am
BRIDGE:
F G Am
Be careful what paradise you deal,
C F E
what hope you make other dreamers feel
F C C Dm Am
for if too many hear it, they will struggle to draw near it
Dm E
and in the search they just might make it real
Am C G
So every war and revel now go to the feasting hall
D Am G
and there you’ll find a Viking Lord named Sigurd standing tall
C F G E
And giving thanks to Odin for the pledge kept after all
C G F Am
Singing “Yo Ho Welcome to Valhalla!!”
C G F Am
For we have made our own Valhalla!!!
C G F Am
For we are the builders of Valhalla!!! Last updated:
