C I first heard about this place Dm this little lump of clay G on a message board in space C G about a billion stars away. The ad read: C Dm ‘Floating garden orb circling a sun. G Help us build a heaven here.
We need one more volunteer’. C G So I said that I would come. C I was asked when I applied Dm to name some service I could bring. G I think service should be joyous C G so I said that I would sing. C Well I guess I got the job. Dm And I don’t mean to complain. G But it’s not like they described in that little classified C that I read before I came. F G Had I somehow missed a turn? Em Am Was this even the right place? F Had I fallen for a scam Gsus4 G or was it more a fall from grace? C Oh, it’s beautiful alright Dm how I love the desert sky. G And a quiet mountain lake C G is enough to make me cry. C But I did not come prepared Dm for the density or strife G for the cruel and inhumane injustices and pain C that can pass here for a life. F G So from a very early age Em Am I grew restless here because F of this longing to go home Gsus4 G though I could not say where home was. C Then in answer to my prayer Dm or more truthfully my scream G my beloved self appeared C come to wake me from this dream. F G And with a diamond voice declared: Em Am “Home is not some distant star F or some heavenly reward that your days are marching toward Gsus4 G but the truth of who you are C An awareness so immense Dm it holds all of this inside…” G As she spoke my mind fell still C G but my tears would not subside. G And from the arms of grace I knew Dm that all suffering would cease G if we could yield to this embrace C G if we just trusted in this peace. C To even try to find the words Dm can be a sacrilegious thing: G So I’d just as soon be silent C ….but I said that I would sing.
