Terrapin Station by Grateful Dead

Chords with lyrics

Terrapin station tabs
I couldn’t find this song tabbed anywhere (maybe cause it’s fifteen minutes or so long, backed by lots of orchestral sounds). O well.
Ok, well, I just chorded the bulk of the lyrics, that is I think there might be more at the end, sorry about those. I hope this is fairly accurate.

Intro: strum Chord diagramFF Chord diagramDmDm Chord diagramFF Chord diagramDmDm Chord diagramFF so on, the lick sort of just comes naturally…
Chord diagramG+G Chord diagramDmDm Chord diagramA minorAm Chord diagramG+G Chord diagramFF
Let my inspiration flow in token rhyme, suggesting rhythm,
Chord diagramFF Chord diagramC majorC Chord diagramFF Chord diagramC majorC Chord diagramC majorC Chord diagramFF Chord diagramG+G Chord diagramC majorC Chord diagramDm7Dm7
That will not forsake me, till my tale is told and done.
Chord diagramG+G Chord diagramDmDm Chord diagramA minorAm Chord diagramG+G
While the firelight’s aglow, strange shadows from the flames will
Chord diagramFF
grow,
Chord diagramFF Chord diagramC majorC Chord diagramFF
Till things we’ve never seen will seem familiar.

Same pattern for the following verses:

Shadows of a sailor, forming winds both foul and fair all swarm.
Down in Carlisle, he loved a lady many years ago.
Here beside him stands a man, a soldier from the looks of him,
Who came through many fights, but lost at love.

While the storyteller speaks, a door within the fire creaks;
Suddenly flies open, and a girl is standing there.
Eyes alight, with glowing hair, all that fancy paints as fair,
She takes her fan and throws it, in the lion’s den.

Which of you to gain me, tell, will risk uncertain pains of hell?
I will not forgive you if you will not take the chance.
The sailor gave at least a try, the soldier being much too wise,
Strategy was his strength, and not disaster.

Here’s the solo. Sorry, scratch that. Please, will somebody tab the solo?

The sailor, coming out again, the lady fairly leapt at him.
That’s how it stands today. You decide if he was wise.
The storyteller makes no choice. Soon you will not hear his voice.
His job is to shed light, and not to master.

Interlude (thingy) goes Chord diagramFF for a while, Chord diagramCmaj7Cmaj7 for a while, C7, then:

Chord diagramFF Chord diagramDmDm Chord diagramC7C7 Chord diagramC majorC
Since the end is never told, we pay the teller off in gold,
Chord diagramFF Chord diagramDmDm Chord diagramE MajorE
In hopes he will return, but he cannot be bought or sold.

Then:

Chord diagramE MajorE Chord diagramA augmentedA Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramE MajorE Chord diagramA augmentedA
Inspiration, move me brightly. Light the song with sense and color;
Chord diagramA augmentedA Chord diagramE MajorE Chord diagramA augmentedA Chord diagramE MajorE
Hold away despair, more than this I will not ask.
Chord diagramE MajorE Chord diagramF# minorF#m Chord diagramA augmentedA Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramC# minorC#m Chord diagramB minorBm Chord diagramE MajorE Chord diagramA augmentedA
Faced with mysteries dark and vast, statements just seem vain
Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramC# minorC#m Chord diagramB minorBm
at last.
Chord diagramA augmentedA Chord diagramB minorBm Chord diagramA augmentedA Chord diagramB minorBm Chord diagramA augmentedA Chord diagramB minorBm Chord diagramA augmentedA
Some rise, some fall, some climb, to get to terrapin.

Chord diagramE MajorE Chord diagramA augmentedA Chord diagramE MajorE Chord diagramF# minorF#m Chord diagramA augmentedA Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramC# minorC#m Chord diagramB minorBm
Counting stars by candlelight, all are dim but one is bright;
Chord diagramE MajorE Chord diagramA augmentedA Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramE MajorE
The spiral light of Venus, rising first and shining best,
Chord diagramE MajorE Chord diagramA augmentedA Chord diagramE MajorE Chord diagramF# minorF#m Chord diagramA augmentedA Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramC# minorC#m Chord diagramB minorBm
On, from the northwest corner, of a brand new crescent moon,
Chord diagramE MajorE Chord diagramA augmentedA Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramA augmentedA Chord diagramE MajorE
While crickets and cicadas sing, a rare and different tune,
Chord diagramE MajorE Chord diagramBB Chord diagramA augmentedA
Terrapin station.

Chord diagramE MajorE Chord diagramBB Chord diagramE MajorE Chord diagramBB Chord diagramA augmentedA
In the shadow of the moon, terrapin station.
Chord diagramA augmentedA Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramE MajorE
And I know we’ll be there soon, terrapin…
Chord diagramE MajorE
I can’t figure out, terrapin, if it’s the end or beginning, terrapin,
Chord diagramE MajorE
But the train’s put it’s brakes on, terrapin,
Chord diagramE MajorE Chord diagramD MajorD
And the whistle is screaming, terrapin.

That’s all I have for now. If anyone wants to add any of the licks, the solo, or the REST OF THE SONG, I would much appreciate.
–17 Years of Dead-head-ness (that’s as long as I’ve been around)
