Guitar chords with lyrics

~SHappy~T by Brandi Carlile, as tabbed by BoB Mulkern

Track 5 on the Brandi Carlile CD and written by
Brandi, this is a hauntingly beautiful tune that is
reasonably easy to play. Standard open chords with
single string ~Shammering~T effects are needed, the
chords being G, C, Em, Am, Bm and D with the song
actually performed with a capo on the third fret. Some
experience with hammering the low E string on a G
chord, F# to G (hammering up) and G to F# to open E
(walking down) to land on Em is helpful. Also, within
the structure of the C chord, hammering ~Sup~T from B to
C on the A string and ~Swalking down~T from C to B to A
on the A string, is helpful in replicating the tune.
No fancy right hand finger action is needed but the
tune should not be simply strummed either. Rather,
judicious striking of the strings from the lower to
upper range with a pick does the job. Both the G and
the C chords can, most of the time, be gainfully
played more fully, or ~Ssuspensefully~T, by using the
ring finger to hold down a D note on the B string for
both the G and C chords, but alternate this at will
with the standard fingering of G and C. Pregnant
pauses of a beat or two when resolving the choruses
and bridge bring some nice drama to the tune. The
following tabbing of this tune is of course all my own
work and, despite my best efforts, approximate - so
embellish at will and enjoy! BoB M
