My rhythm tabbing is that of a child. But you all know the rhythm, you just need to know where to put yr fingers!
Now let's get together all the chords we're gonna use on this mother: G+G G7G7 C majorC D MajorD D7D7 A7A7 Amin Bmin C2* E MajorE -3--1--0---2--2--0--0-----2----3----0----------------------------------------| -0--0--1---3--1--2--1-----3----5----0----------------------------------------| -0--0--0---2--2--0--2-----4----5----1----------------------------------------| -0--0--2---0--0--2--2-----4----5----2----------------------------------------| -2--2--3---------0--0-----2----3----2----------------------------------------| -3--3--x----------------------------0----------------------------------------| There's no real musical difference between C majorC and C2, they're both a C majorC chord. I denotated that second C majorC (played as a bar chord: bar your first finger across the third fret, yr second takes the D-B strings at the 5th) as such so you'd know when to play it - it's only played during the chorus. A augmentedA word on the rhythms: very country and western stylin', where you're hitting the chords, but it's "chunky", or sloppy. An illuminating (and transcribable, by me anyway) example of this is how Paul plays the chorus: ----0-0---x----2--2--x------3--3-x----2--2---x--------------------------------------| ----1-1---x----3--3--x------5--5-x----3--3---x--------------------------------------| ----2-2---x----4--4--x------5--5-x----4--4---x--------------------------------------| ----2-2---x----4--4--x------5--5-x----4--4---x--------------------------------------| -0--------x--2-------x---3-------x--2--------x--------------------------------------| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| The column of x's represent a muted chord; you basically lay your fingers across the strings and hit 'em for rhythm. This is a somewhat hyperbolic example of me playing the chorus, but this will give you an idea. http://www.benalto.com/lonelyexam1.mp3 He has some other county-ish lead ins and turnarounds, but we'll get to those when we come to them. Just remember to keep your playing loose; this isn't a strummer per se. It's really a sloppy picking job! With that in mind, let's see if we can get through the song!
(intro) G+G G7G7 Well, I ordered a Scotch as I bust through them doors C majorC Spilled half on my jeans A7A7 The other half on the floor G+G D7D7 G+G When I saw you standing by that video game Lead guitar break here: ------------------------------------| ------------------------------------| -2s4--2s4--2s4--2s4-2-2-4-2------0--| ------------------------------2-----| ------------------------------------| ------------------------------------| Rhythm: (G+G) D7D7 G+G Vocal: Well I G+G Well, I ain't very good G7G7 But I get practice by myself C majorC Forgot my one line A7A7 So I just said what I felt A minorAm B minorBm C2 B minorBm If only you were lonely, (no vox) A minorAm B minorBm C2 B minorBm If only you was lonely too, A minorAm B minorBm C2 If only you was lonely G+G I'd go home with you >From here to the next verse is a weird break. The rhythm guitar basically goes: G+G D MajorD G+G D MajorD But the D's are done like the beginning of the song, with the Dsus4Dsus4 added in...like thus: -------2-2-3-3-2-2--------------------------| -------3-3-3-3-3-3--------------------------| -------2-2-2-2-2-3--------------------------| -------0------------------------------------| --------------------------------------------| --------------------------------------------| (the wiggling D MajorD isn't weird, just that it's done twice). The lead guitar during this section, starting right after Paul sings "go home with you": G+G D MajorD G+G D MajorD -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| ----3-----------------3----------------------------3-------------3-0---------------------| 2s4-4-4-2-0-2s4--2s4----4--2-0-------2s4-------2s4----------2s4-------2-0----------------| --------------------------------2-0-------------------2-1s2-----------------2-0----------| --------------------------------------------------------------------------------2-0------| --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------3--| Lots of the lead guitar bits are here just for reference, for those who want to get deeper into what's going on guitar-wise. THis lead is actually really crappy and not one I would recommend learning. G+G G7G7 Twenty push-ups this morning, that was half my goal C majorC Tonight I'll be doin' pull-ups A7A7 On the toilet bowl G+G D7D7 G+G D MajorD And somewhere somebody's throwin up G+G Well, I broke the seal on my door G7G7 And I poured myself to bed C majorC A7A7 The whirlpool spinning around in my head G+G D7D7 There was liquor on my breath G+G G7G7 And you were on my mind C majorC And I'll be dreamin of that smile G+G E MajorE Without a care in the world A minorAm B minorBm C2 B minorBm If only you were lonely, A minorAm B minorBm C2 B minorBm If only you was lonely too, A minorAm B minorBm C majorC B minorBm If only you was lonely Slight instumental section, continuing the chords in the chorus: (Am-Bm-C-Bm-D7) ----------------------------------------------------| ---------------------------------------3---------3--| ------------0-2s4--2s4----------0-2s4--------2s4----| -----0-0h1h2--------------0-1-2---------------------| 0h1s2-----------------------------------------------| ----------------------------------------------------| G+G I walked out of the kitchen G7G7 I was tired as hell C majorC A7A7 Another day's here and oh well G+G D7D7 C majorC Somewhere there's a smile with my name on it. C majorC G+G G7G7 ---------------------------------------------------------------------| ---------------------------------------------------------------------| ------0-2-----------2s4--2-0-0---------------------------------------| -1-2------0------0-----------0---------------------------------------| -----------0-1s2-----------------------------------------------------| ----------------------3----------------------------------------------| And that's it!
