Sometimes I Laugh
by Victor Wooten

NOTE: I believe that this is played by Mr. Wooten with CGDA strings
[take off E and move down all strings, then buy a C string for the top],
in which case everything is moved down 5 frets. I just used GDAE and
capo’d the fifth fret to make CGDA.
[ +#+ means harmonic, x means muted note, h is hammer on, p is pull off
and / is slide]

BASE
G|------+17+-----------+17+---------+21+-----------------+17+--------|
^^chord with this and other stuff i cant pick out^^

G|------+10+-----------+10+-------------+12+-----------------+12+----|
D|------+10+-------+10+----+10+-----+12+-------------+12+------------|
A|---+12+----10-12--------------/14--------12-14-15------------------|
E|-13------------------------------------------------------------(15)|
[harmonics wont be right If 5th fret isn’t capo’d or without CDGA strings]
This goes on throughout the song while the melody is played:

MELODY
G|----12/14--12-----12-------------14--12------------------------------|
D|-14-----------12-----12h14—12/14--------12---------------------------|
A|-------------------------------------------14/15---------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------repeats-----------|
Sometimes
G|-14/17-14—[same as above”””””””””””””””]-----------------------------|
D|----------------------------------------12h14p12---------------------|
A|------------------------------------------------14/15----------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------|
With variations im sure…

And a chord of a high harmonic C [+17+ fret on G] plays steady eigths]
And a bass thing of E|-1---3---2---3-| or E|-----2~/3-|,
Maybe
G|-------------4----5-|
D|---3----5---5-5--5--|
A|--3-3--5-5-2----3---|
E|-1----3-------------|(you’ll have to go to GDAE for this)
(FMaj EMaj bmi CMaj)I think

G|-------------------12-14--12----------12---------------------------|
D|-------12-14----14-----------15-14-12-----12(10--9-10)-------------|
A|-14-15-------15---------------------------14-15-14-15--------------|
E|----------------------14-----------10------------------------------|

And with a little thing of G|-x---17h19-/21-19-17-|

BASE and MELODY stop and this goes:
G|----------14-16-14--------------14-16-14---------------------------|
D|----14h16----------16-----14h16----------17-16---------------------|
A|-5----------------------5------------------------------------------|
E|-------------15--------------------15------------------------------|
[I capo the 5 on A (so I play open), you can do 10 on E or open on D
(without capo), or, if you have CDGA, open like me]

Sounds like its just played with an identical copy at the same time, and
maybe a bass line of D (the lowest D you have)on the 1 beat and G on the 3

G|---------14-16-14---------14--11(9)-(7)----------------------------|
D|---14h16----------17-16-14-------14-12-----------------------------|
A|-5----------------------12-----------------------------------------|
E|------------15----------------10-----------------------------------|

G|----------14-16-14--------------14-16-14----19---------------------|
D|----14h16----------16-----14h16----------17------------------------|
A|-5----------------------5------------------------------------------|
E|-------------15--------------------15------------------------------|

Move that down a step: (C on the 1 and F on the 3)
G|---------12-14-12--------------12-14-12----17----------------------|
D|---12h14----------14-----12h14----------15-------------------------|
A|----------------------15-------------------------------------------|
E|-8----------13--------------------13-------------------------------|

G|----------12-14-12----------12-------------------------------------|
D|----12h14----------15-14-12---14-12-10-----------------------------|
A|-15----------------------10---12-----------------------------------|
E|-------------13----------------------------------------------------|
