Early Morning Rain chords by Paul Weller
Guitar chords with lyrics
This is Paul Weller's cover of a Gordon Lightfoot song. It could have ended in tears of the very wrong kind. But no. Weller makes a marvellous job of it. Eight great verses. Standard tuning. The most difficult part is to get a nice lilting rhythm on it, including the little roll on and off the E major to Esus4 at the end of each alternate line. Intro ===== E E
verse 1
=======
Abm
In the early morning rain
E
With a dollar in my hand
Gbm
And aching in my heart
E
And my pockets full of sand
verse 2
=======
Abm
I'm a long way from home
E
And Lord I miss my loved one so
Gbm
In the early morning rain
E
With no place to go
verse 3
=======
Abm
Out on runway number nine
E
Seven o seven set to go
Gbm
But I'm stuck here on the ground
E
Where the cold wind blows
verse 4
=======
Abm
Now the liquor tasted good
E
And the women all were fast
Gbm
There she goes my friend
E
She'll be rolling now at last
Inst 1
======
E
verse 5
=======
Abm
Hear the mighty engines roar
E
See the silver bird on high
Gbm
She's away and westward bound
E
Far above the clouds she'll fly
verse 6
=======
Abm
Where the morning rain don't fall
E
And the sun always shines
Gbm
She'll be flying over my home
E
In about three hours' time
Inst 2
======
E
verse 7
=======
Abm
This old airport's got me down
E
It's no earthly good to me
Gbm
Cos I'm stuck here on the ground
E
Cold and drunk as I can be
verse 8
=======
Abm
You can't jump a jet plane
E
Like you can a freight train
Gbm
So I'd best be on my way
E
In the early morning rain
