Sore Thumb by We Were Promised Jetpacks

Intro

Sore Thumb
Artist: We Were Promised Jetpacks
Album: In the Pit of the Stomach
Tabbed by: Fipback

Yo! This is a pretty easy song to learn, and if you get a couple mates over to
jam it sounds sick. I?ve mainly tabbed Adam?s guitar since his is more audible.
These guys deserve to be way bigger, got a lot of time for them.

Intro:
e|----------14-14-14-12------14-14-14-12---
Chord diagramBB|---------------------15-12------------15-
Chord diagramG+G|-----------------------------------------
Chord diagramD MajorD|-----------------------------------------
Chord diagramA augmentedA|-----------------------------------------
Chord diagramE MajorE|-----------------------------------------

Phrase 1
e|---------14-14-14-12------14-14-14-12----
Chord diagramBB|-15~~14~~-----------15-12-------------15-
Chord diagramG+G|-----------------------------------------
Chord diagramD MajorD|-----------------------------------------
Chord diagramA augmentedA|-----------------------------------------
Chord diagramE MajorE|-----------------------------------------

Phrase 2
e|---12----14-14-14-12-------14-14-14-12---
Chord diagramBB|-15~-14~-------------15-12------------15-
Chord diagramG+G|-----------------------------------------
Chord diagramD MajorD|-----------------------------------------
Chord diagramA augmentedA|-----------------------------------------
Chord diagramE MajorE|-----------------------------------------

When Adam plays live he seems to start playing an octave down around the 1:28 mark ?
doesn?t happen in the recording, but you can slide down to 7th fret on the Chord diagramBB
string and carry it on there if you want to vary it up a little:

Phrase 3
e|---12----14-14-14-12-------------------
Chord diagramBB|-15~-14~-------------15-12///7-7-7-5---
Chord diagramG+G|-------------------------------------7-
Chord diagramD MajorD|---------------------------------------
Chord diagramA augmentedA|---------------------------------------
Chord diagramE MajorE|---------------------------------------

Phrase 4
e|------------------------------
Chord diagramBB|---5----7-7-7-5-----7-7-7-5---
Chord diagramG+G|-7~-6~----------7-4---------7-
Chord diagramD MajorD|------------------------------
Chord diagramA augmentedA|------------------------------
Chord diagramE MajorE|------------------------------

Meanwhile, Mikey?s there in the background tremoloing away like a madman
somewhere around the 15th/14th fret on the Chord diagramA augmentedA string. He?s pretty hard to hear,
so if you fancy playing that part then just screw around with it until you
find something you?re happy with.

Mikey?s bit
e|----------------
Chord diagramBB|----------------
Chord diagramG+G|----------------
Chord diagramD MajorD|-----------tr14-
Chord diagramA augmentedA|-tr15-tr14------
Chord diagramE MajorE|----------------

(y)

This continues until about 2:10, at which point both Adam and Mikey trail off to
make room for the bass. And Adam?s glorious accent.

?Retrace, all my steps??
e|--------------------------
Chord diagramBB|--------------------------
Chord diagramG+G|------take a break,-------
Chord diagramD MajorD|----------friend----------
Chord diagramA augmentedA|--------------------------
Chord diagramE MajorE|--------------------------

Post-break, Adam seems to thrash away at Bm, A, and then a descending series of
power chords following the guitar phrase until the song winds down. Again, it?s
a little hard to hear so this is my best approximation:

e|-7-7-7-7-7-7--5-5-5-5-5-5--------------------
Chord diagramBB|-7-7-7-7-7-7--5-5-5-5-5-5--------------------
Chord diagramG+G|-7-7-7-7-7-7--6-6-6-6-6-6--11-11-11-11-9-7-4-
Chord diagramD MajorD|-9-9-9-9-9-9--7-7-7-7-7-7--11-11-11-11-9-7-4-
Chord diagramA augmentedA|-9-9-9-9-9-9--7-7-7-7-7-7--9--9--9--9--7-5-2-
Chord diagramE MajorE|-7-7-7-7-7-7--5-5-5-5-5-5--------------------

From live videos I?ve seen he seems to play the Bm, Chord diagramA augmentedA and then play Chord diagramF# minorF#m followed
by G, with the chord base on the Chord diagramA augmentedA string:

e|-9--10-
Chord diagramBB|-10-12-
Chord diagramG+G|-11-12-
Chord diagramD MajorD|-11-12-
Chord diagramA augmentedA|-9--10-
Chord diagramE MajorE|-------

Have a play around and see what sounds better, idk

Post-break it sounds like Mikey plays some pitchbends somewhere, but I haven?t
worked out where (most likely following the main guitar phrase). After 16 bars
he starts tremoloing:

Mikey?s second bit
e|---------------------------------------
Chord diagramBB|-12tr///17tr///10tr///14tr/15tr///17tr-
Chord diagramG+G|---------------------------------------
Chord diagramD MajorD|---------------------------------------
Chord diagramA augmentedA|---------------------------------------
Chord diagramE MajorE|---------------------------------------

This continues until the end of the breakdown(?), where Adam starts playing the
main phrase again and Mikey plays single notes:

Mikey?s outro:
e|--------------------------------
Chord diagramBB|-12~//17~//10~//14~//15~~//17~~-
Chord diagramG+G|--------------------------------
Chord diagramD MajorD|--------------------------------
Chord diagramA augmentedA|--------------------------------
Chord diagramE MajorE|--------------------------------

And that?s pretty much it. Hope this helps anyone trying to learn it, was good fun
to tab.
