try adding a G bass note with the C chord. 3rd fret bottom E switching 3rd and 4th fingers.

Alternative for Cmaj7*. I can't find any proper name for the chord but it drops the noteC to B an octave
lower (bass note) with the addition of opening the D string. Both work fine in my opinion.
