Dark-eyed Sailor Chords by Steeleye Span

Dark-eyed Sailor chords by Steeleye Span

Guitar chords with lyrics

I figured this chords out after listening to Steeleye Span's "Journey" live
album. It features Gay Woods on lead vocals and Maddy Prior on backing vocals. I
THINK it's in a different key than the original version on HArk! The Village Wait
but it still works. It's one hell of a song.

C-F-C

C F C Am
As I roved out one evening fair
                C F C F
It bein' the summertime to take the air
            Am G C F C
I spied a sailor and a lady gay
        Am C
And I stood to listen
        F C G C F C
And I stood to listen to hear what they would say.

C F C Am
He said "Fair lady, why do you roam
                 C F C
For the day is spent and the night is on"
              Am G C
She heaved a sigh while the tears did roll
         Am C
"For my dark-eyed sailor
         F C G C F C
For my dark-eyed sailor, so young and stout and bold."

C F C Am
"'Tis seven long years since he left this land
           C F C F C
A ring he took from off his lily-white hand
                 Am G C F C
One half of the ring is still here with me
         Am C
But the other's rollin'
          F C G C F C
But the other's rollin' at the bottom of the sea."

C F C Am
He said "You may drive him out of your mind
             C F C F C
Some other young man you will surely find
             Am G C F C
Love turns aside and soon cold has grown
           Am C
Like the winter's morning
           F C G C
Like the winter's morning, the hills are white with snow."

C F C Am
She said "I'll never forsake my dear
                 C F C F C
Although we're parted this many a year
           Am G C F C
Genteel he was and a rake like you
     Am C
To induce a maiden
      F C G C
To induce a maiden to slight the jacket blue."

C F C	Am
One half of the ring did young William show
	   C F C F C
She ran distracted in grief and woe
          Am G C F C
Sayin' "William, William, I have gold in store
         Am C
For my dark-eyed sailor
         F C G C
For my dark-eyed sailor has proved his honour long"

C F C Am
And there is a cottage by yonder lea
                 C F C F C
This couple's married and does agree
             Am G C F C
So maids be loyal when your love's at sea
        Am C
For a cloudy morning
        F C G C F C
For a cloudy morning brings in a sunny day.
