My Girl Bill by Jim Stafford: Guitar, Bass & Songwriting Insights

"My Girl Bill" is a 1974 hit song written and recorded by Jim Stafford. It was the third of four U.S. Top 40 singles from his eponymous debut album. The song is about a man named ´William´, or Bill, and his friend, the narrator of the song, who is taking Bill home with him.

The lyrics employ double entendre, leading the listener to infer that the men are themselves involved in a romantic relationship as the title also suggests. However, a twist occurs at the end, when a woman is mentioned who has been a mutual love interest but has summarily rejected Bill.
