At this point I must stress the difference between ‘Simple’ and ‘Easy’ The above is a simple line.
It is not easy to play! It is relentless and you have to be rhythmically very accurate, hitting the first
beat of every bar without fail, right on the nose. Listen to the record carefully to get the phrasing.
I know there is a lot of space there and a lot of notes just SCREAMING OUT to be played, but be strong,
Grasshopper, avoid the trap of overplaying and be true to the force of the funk. Less is more,
the groove is in the silences.
