I put stuff out there for a guy playing solo acoustic guitar.
I like open chords for the bass & resonation. I'll always give
the lyrics and enough tab to get you going. I'm sure all the chords
have more technical names but when I'm playing I use this for a
reference. -Steve
I tune to standard 440 but one fret lower. So E MajorE is Eb MajorEb etc.
E MajorE A augmentedA D MajorD G+G BB E MajorE
The * is just sliding your finger down a fret for the bass
line note then back to the chord shape

The Bm** is another chord where you pull off
and on with the pinky. This repeats continuously
through the verses.

[B minorBm intro*] You called me up on the phone today
Struggling with the right words to say
Time can change a thing or two
Time has changed the lives of me and you
But you know [A augmentedA][A*][A augmentedA] [G+G][G*][G+G]
it could have been [B minorBm] different dad
[Bm**] The word brings back a sweet memory
I'm sitting on a bluff on a broken tree
By my side a distinguished man
Giving me encouragement, telling me I can
And you know [A augmentedA][A*][A augmentedA] [G+G][G*][G+G]
You're not there
[D MajorD] You say Son let's forget the past
I want another chance, gonna make it last
You're begging me for a brand new start
Trying to mend a bridge that's been blown apart,
But you know [C majorC][C*][C majorC] [G+G][G*][G+G]
You never [B minorBm] built it dad
(a nice slide down the E MajorE string into the chord works well here)
[E minorEm] And so I sit here through the [F# minorF#m] night,
And I write myself to [G+G] sleep,
And time keeps ticking [B minorBm][Bm**][B minorBm] [A augmentedA][A*][A augmentedA] [G+G][G*][G+G]
[B minorBm][Bm**][B minorBm] [G+G][G*][G+G] [F#F#] [B minorBm][Bm**][B minorBm]
[Bm**] Time has made you finally realize
Your loneliness and your guilt inside
You're reaching for something you never had
Turning around now you're looking back
And you know [A augmentedA][A*][A augmentedA] [G+G][G*][G+G] I'm not there
[D MajorD] You say "Son, let's forget the past
I want another chance, gonna make it last"
You're begging me for a brand new start,
Trying to mend a bridge that's been blown apart,
But you know [C majorC][C*][C majorC] [G+G][G*][G+G]
You never [BB] built it dad.
You never [A augmentedA] built it dad.
You never [G+G] built it dad.
You never [F#F#] built it dad.
You never [E minorEm] built it dad. [B minorBm]
--This reminds me of Cat's in the Cradle by Harry Chapin.
If you listen to it you'll se what I'm getting at. Good luck. Peace.
