By: Steven Smigiel

I put stuff out there for a guy playing solo acoustic guitar.
I like open chords for the bass & resonation. I'll always give
the lyrics and enough tab to get you going. I'm sure all the chords
have more technical names but when I'm playing I use this for a
reference. -Steve

I tune to standard 440 but one fret lower. So A chord diagramE MajorE is A chord diagramEb MajorEb etc.
A chord diagramE MajorE A chord diagramA augmentedA A chord diagramD MajorD A chord diagramG+G A chord diagramBB A chord diagramE MajorE

The * is just sliding your finger down a fret for the bass
line note then back to the chord shape

[A chord diagramB minorBm intro*] You called me up on the phone today
Struggling with the right words to say
Time can change a thing or two
Time has changed the lives of me and you
But you know [A chord diagramA augmentedA][A*][A chord diagramA augmentedA] [A chord diagramG+G][G*][A chord diagramG+G]
it could have been [A chord diagramB minorBm] different dad

[Bm**] The word brings back a sweet memory
I'm sitting on a bluff on a broken tree
By my side a distinguished man
Giving me encouragement, telling me I can
And you know [A chord diagramA augmentedA][A*][A chord diagramA augmentedA] [A chord diagramG+G][G*][A chord diagramG+G]
You're not there

[A chord diagramD MajorD] You say Son let's forget the past
I want another chance, gonna make it last
You're begging me for a brand new start
Trying to mend a bridge that's been blown apart,
But you know [A chord diagramC majorC][C*][A chord diagramC majorC] [A chord diagramG+G][G*][A chord diagramG+G]
You never [A chord diagramB minorBm] built it dad

(a nice slide down the A chord diagramE MajorE string into the chord works well here)

[A chord diagramE minorEm] And so I sit here through the [A chord diagramF# minorF#m] night,
And I write myself to [A chord diagramG+G] sleep,
And time keeps ticking [A chord diagramB minorBm][Bm**][A chord diagramB minorBm] [A chord diagramA augmentedA][A*][A chord diagramA augmentedA] [A chord diagramG+G][G*][A chord diagramG+G]
[A chord diagramB minorBm][Bm**][A chord diagramB minorBm] [A chord diagramG+G][G*][A chord diagramG+G] [A chord diagramF#F#] [A chord diagramB minorBm][Bm**][A chord diagramB minorBm]

[Bm**] Time has made you finally realize
Your loneliness and your guilt inside
You're reaching for something you never had
Turning around now you're looking back
And you know [A chord diagramA augmentedA][A*][A chord diagramA augmentedA] [A chord diagramG+G][G*][A chord diagramG+G] I'm not there

[A chord diagramD MajorD] You say "Son, let's forget the past
I want another chance, gonna make it last"
You're begging me for a brand new start,
Trying to mend a bridge that's been blown apart,
But you know [A chord diagramC majorC][C*][A chord diagramC majorC] [A chord diagramG+G][G*][A chord diagramG+G]

You never [A chord diagramBB] built it dad.
You never [A chord diagramA augmentedA] built it dad.
You never [A chord diagramG+G] built it dad.
You never [A chord diagramF#F#] built it dad.
You never [A chord diagramE minorEm] built it dad. [A chord diagramB minorBm]

--This reminds me of Cat's in the Cradle by Harry Chapin.
If you listen to it you'll se what I'm getting at. Good luck. Peace.
