Nothing as it seems occurs as the fifth track on Pearl Jam’s
new album. Here, I will tab out a version that is certainly not
canonical, though it should serve amply well as a version one could
jam out with friends for fun. Here goes…
Standard Tuning.

I think it will be helpful to write down the time when the various
parts of the song occur as it appears on your CD players counter eg:
1min 04sec. This technique will ensure that you will know which part
I am referring to.

Intro/Verse(part 1) : here, the guitar alternates between two(2)
chords as follows.
Chord 1 Chord 2
E 7 E 6
A 5 A 5
D 4 D 4
G 7 G 7
B x B x
e x e x
The two chords used in the intro/verse are a bit of a
stretch, so which fingers you choose to use is important. It is also
important to ensure that the bottom strings B and high e,
respectively, are muted. You will note that the essential shape of
the chord remains the same, but the root of ‘Chord 2’ is lowered by a
minor 2nd (one fret).

Chorus: The 'it's nothing as it seems' part. 1min 23sec

Chord 1 Chord 2 Chord 3
E 10 E 5 E 7
A 12 A 7 A 5
D x D x D 4
G 11 G 6 G 7
B x B x B x
e x e x e x

Part 3: 'saving up for sunny days'' 2min 52sec

Chord 1 Chord 2 Chord 3 Chord 4
E 7 E 6 E 5 E 6
A 5 A 5 A 4 A 5
D 4 D 4 D 2 D 4
G 7 G 7 G 6 G 7
B x B x B x B x
e x e x e x e x

Part 4: After the ''a whisper through a megaphone' part, play these
octaves four times each. They start at 3min 22sec
Chord 1 Chord 2 Chord 3 Chord 4
E x E x E x E x
A 11 A 10 A 9 A 7
D x D x D x D x
G 13 G 12 G 11 G 9
B x B x B x B x
e x e x e x e x

After the section immediately above(part 4), they return to
E 7
A 5
D 4
G 7
B x
e x

then, they do the 'octave' part(part 4) again. On the third time
around it goes like this:

Chord 1 Chord 2 Chord 3
E x E x E x
A 11 A 10 A 9
D x D x D x
G 13 G 12 G 11
B x B x B x
e x e x e x

The only difference on the third time around is that they hold ‘chord
three’ and omit ‘chord four’ before finally returning to the
intro/verse part to wrap it up. If you listen to the song this will
probably seem a little less confusing. Hopefully, this tab will be
reasonably clear. Some of the chords used might take a little bit of
stretching, but with a little practice, they will surely come
together.
