Tricks Of The Trade chords by Paolo Nutini
Guitar chords with lyrics
This is my first ever tab, feel free to comment. I watched a youtube clip of Paolo playing this live at Eden Sessions and it sounded spot on. No capo, open D tuning for a full rich sound. He even comments at the beginning of the clip about the tuning, which makes this song incredibly easy to play and sound great. There may be a string or 2 that's not quite right, but for the most part it sounds just like how he plays it. I don't know the name of the chords in this tuning so I'll just tab them, give each a basic name, then show you where each chord should be played in relation to the lyrics. Listen to the song for strumming pattern....good luck! Tuning: Open D

(INTRO)
D F# G (x2)
(VERSE 1)
       D
Was it love or recognition that has
F#
Healed this man's condition
    G
I'm hoping and I'm wishing that
     A
This bird won't fly away
       D
We can see life hand in hand,
    F#
The green, the blue, the rough, the sand
    A
And in our time and in our land
      G
We'll savor everyday
(CHORUS)
    E D F#
And oh, how our glory may fade away,
   G
At least we've learned
                      A
Some things along the way
(VERSE 2)
    D
You took me from my bubble
        F#
Knowing my defense was weak
        G
And you sat there and you listened
    A
Any time I chose to speak
    D
You gathered from my pleas to
         F#
You that I am but a clown
      G
And I fear only a hero
     A
can defeat these demons now
(CHORUS)
    E D F#
And oh, how our glory may fade babe,
        G
Well at least we've learned some
A
Tricks of trade
D F# G (x2)
       E D
And as time shall inevitably move on,
F# G
Mm well, at least we'll have four strong
        A
Legs to stand on
            D
To keep us alive... Last updated:
