Dearly Departed Ukulele by Marianas Trench

Chords with lyrics

This is my first tab but it’s also a great song off of their new album Astoria!
Hope you enjoy!

Some notes:

I rewrote the lyrics towards the end of the song a bit to make it easier for a soloist
who wanted to sing and play the song.

It’ll help a lot if you listen to the song to learn the strumming patters, chord stresses,
and pauses in the song!

[Intro]

D E F#m
D E F#m

[Verse 1]

D E F#m
Its the third of October, you should come over
F#m D
Best laid plans are not sober
         E F#m
And maybe not the way we thought we planned
F#m
Both of us will take this hand
D E F#m
For a couple of days then we’ll disappear
F#m D
We don’t have to talk of where we go from here
  E F#m
Oh, my dearly departed,
 D E F#m
Mmm, my dearly departed

[Refrain]

  D
One final shoulder
D F#m
Here before they’re none
E D
And then there were none

[Chorus]

   F#m A D
This last call could be all we can do for each other
F#m A D
Embrace for a dear old friend
D
Bring wine to bed
   F#m E A D F#m
We’ll toast what could have been
E D
My dearly departed
 F#m E D
To, my dearly departed

[Verse 2]

D E
I don’t know how to mend it
         F#m
When this chapter ended
F#m D
When all of my plans have depended on you
        E F#m
But at least tonight we’ll still pretend
F#m D
Hold each other close like its not the end
            E F#m
And you can send me balloons, and we can laugh at the doom
F#m D
We both thought of that doesn’t it say something to
  E F#m
Oh my dearly departed,
 D E F#m
Ohh, my dearly departed

[Refrain]

D
One final shoulder
D F#m
Here before we’re none
 E D
Until (there) are none

[Chorus]

   F#m A D
This last call could be all we can do for each other
F#m A D
Embrace for a dear old friend
D
Bring wine to bed
   F#m E A D F#m
We’ll toast what could have been
E D
My dearly departed
 F#m E D
To my dearly departed

[Bridge]

   F#m A
Every masterpiece I’d write again
    E
You’ll always be my porcelain
 F#m A
I crossed my heart but I stuttered too
  E
So truth or dare was I good to you?
    F#m A
Haven’t had enough of you all to myself
   E
Still right beside you in sickness and health
  F#m E D
Forever after you will be my home
            F#m E D
And there’s no place like home

[Outro]

D E F#m
We never sent the cards, they’re all still on the table
                   D
Wanna throw them out but I’m just not able
E F#m D
My dearly departed
E F#m A D
  My dearly departed
D F#m A D
Toast what could what could have been
D F#m A D
Toast what could what could have been
D F#m
Dear old friend,
   A D
What could have been
D F#m
Old friend
A D
My dearly departed
D F#m
Toast what could,
A D
My dearly departed
D F#m
Toast what could,
A D
My dearly departed
D F#m A D
Toast what could what could have been
D
