"The Jealous Tunnel / About Face" by Michael Hedges

Before you jump into this one, there are few important things
to keep in mind.
****************************************************************

 - The tuning is DADEAB, just like "The Naked Stalk". Although
   they can stand alone, the three songs sound best when played
   together, as they do sort of go together. The TAB for
   Naked Stalk was printed in a guitar magazine a couple of years
   ago, and it has also appeared on the net. It's at nevada.edu
   and its mirror sites, but if you can't get it that way, let me know,
   and I'll mail you a copy.

 - For the "Jealous Tunnel" part, Michael is pretty much strumming
   the whole way through, which makes it less than ideal to notate.

   What is important to pick up from this transcription is the
   LEFT hand fingering, as the strumming sort of complicates the
   issue. If you are familiar with "Ritual Dance", you know that
   it also is strummed the whole piece.

   What is notated is my best effort to show how I play this piece,
   which I have based on the way I have seen Michael do it live.
   Just get the basic fingerings, then FEEL the rhythm.
   Sounds kinda corny, but it's the only way you'll do this one
   justice.

   Keep in mind, of course, that "About Face" was recorded with backing
   percussion, and a whistle melody, so you'll have to work harder to
   emphasize the melody on a solo guitar performance.


 - For the first chord, 0505xx and 03x3xx, use then 2nd & 3rd
   fingers, which will make the 1st and 4th available for the
   050503 and 050505 chords.


 - As for the 444000 and 777000 chords in "About Face".....
   It sounds on the CD like there are some higher notes, possibly
   octaves of the 444 & 777 bass notes, I dunno. Anyway, I haven't
   found any better forms than 444000 & 777000, and I'm pretty sure
   these ARE the forms Michael uses when playing this in concert,
   so..... maybe they're overdubs?


 - I finger the 222020 chord by catching the bass strings w/ my
   index finger, and fretting the second string w/ my middle
   finger. You may have a better way. If so, let me know how
   you do it. You also may want to play 222020 for the 222000
   chord in "Jealous Tunnel". I'm not sure which way it is, and
   I don't have the CD at the moment :(


 - The 5x035x chord probably looks funny, and more difficult than
   it needs to be, but I think it really is what he's doing.
   Use the ring finger on 6, index on 3, and pinky on 2, with
   the middle finger on the 4th fret, ready for the next note.
   Note that this part is always played with a repeat. On the first
   time, I think the notated 0^2^0 sounds right, but it sounds like
   he's playing something slightly different on the repeat. Anyone
   got any ideas?


 - Lastly, if you have ANY suggestions, comments, criticism
   whatsoever, please let me know. I love figuring out Hedges
   tunes, but typing them can be a drag, especially this long
   one ;)  So drop me a line! At least let me know if it
   was worth all this typing.
