Its A Laugh by Hall And Oates

Its A Laugh chords by Hall And Oates

Chords with lyrics

This is entirely my own work.

"It's a Laugh"
 Hall and Oates
From the album "Along the Red Ledge" (1978)

 Intro: Chord diagramG/AG/A Chord diagramA/BA/B

 Verse:

 Chord diagramC majorC G/C
 You must..

 C/Bb F/Bb Chord diagramBb majorBb
 ..But you

 Chord diagramA/BA/B
  You remember me..

   Chord diagramA/GA/G Chord diagramG+G
 ..boyfriend

 Chorus:

Chord diagramA augmentedA Chord diagramA augmentedA+5 F#m/A A? (see chord shapes below)
 It's a laugh..

 Chord diagramBm7Bm7
 Funny thing is..

          Chord diagramA/C#A/C#
 Everyone thought

   Chord diagramA/C#A/C# Chord diagramD MajorD
 ..Forever..

 Guitar Chords Defined:

 Intro:

 Chord diagramG/AG/A = x05430 (or simply x00000)
 Chord diagramA/BA/B = x22222

 Verse:

The chords I listed above in the verse are more keyboard oriented..
For guitar, this is simpler, and sounds fine:

 G/C (Chord diagramCMaj9Cmaj9) (x35433)
 You must...

 Chord diagramBbmaj7Bbmaj7 (x13231)
 But you..

 Chord diagramA/BA/B (x22222)
 You remember..

 Chord diagramA/GA/G (3x2220)
 ..Boy

 Chord diagramG+G (320033)
 -friend..

 Chorus:

 Chord diagramA augmentedA (x02220)
 Chord diagramA augmentedA+5 (x03220)
 F#m/A (x04220)
 A? (x05220)

Basically, you just keep moving up a half-step on the Chord diagramD MajorD string,
starting
with a regular Chord diagramA augmentedA Major chord.

Same if you're playing it on a piano. Start with an Chord diagramA augmentedA (A-C#-E), and
keep
moving the Chord diagramE MajorE up a half-step..

 Then:

 Chord diagramBm7Bm7 (x24232)
 Chord diagramA/C#A/C# (x42220)
 Chord diagramD MajorD (xx0232)

 One more thing:

Before the second chorus (at about 2:03 in the recording), there's a
cool
harmony guitar lick..it's about a second long, so not the easiest
thing
to try and transcribe, but heres a shot. I wish I had a second
guitarist
here so I could see if these two parts sound anything close to what
I hear in the song.

    Guitar 1:

E----------------------------------------------------------------
B----------------------5----------------------------------------
G---2h4p2---------------------------------------------------
D---------------4p2-------------------------------------------
A----------------------------------------------------------------
E----------------------------------------------------------------

   Guitar 2:

E----------------------------------------------------------------
B----------------------------------------------------------------
G--------------------------6------------------------------------
D---4h5p4----------------------------------------------------
A----------------7p5-------------------------------------------
E----------------------------------------------------------------

It's a really fast lick as you'll hear in the song. If you have
another
guitar player, to try play those in harmony, and let me know if it's
close.
