Chords with lyrics
This is entirely my own work.
"It's a Laugh"
Hall and Oates
From the album "Along the Red Ledge" (1978)

G/AG/A
A/BA/B
Verse:
C majorC G/C
You must..
C/Bb F/Bb
Bb majorBb
..But you
A/BA/B
You remember me..
A/GA/G
G+G
..boyfriend
Chorus:
A augmentedA
A augmentedA+5 F#m/A A? (see chord shapes below)
It's a laugh..
Bm7Bm7
Funny thing is..
A/C#A/C#
Everyone thought
A/C#A/C#
D MajorD
..Forever..
Guitar Chords Defined:
Intro:
G/AG/A = x05430 (or simply x00000)
A/BA/B = x22222
Verse:
The chords I listed above in the verse are more keyboard oriented..
For guitar, this is simpler, and sounds fine:
G/C (
CMaj9Cmaj9) (x35433)
You must...
Bbmaj7Bbmaj7 (x13231)
But you..
A/BA/B (x22222)
You remember..
A/GA/G (3x2220)
..Boy
G+G (320033)
-friend..
Chorus:
A augmentedA (x02220)
A augmentedA+5 (x03220)
F#m/A (x04220)
A? (x05220)
Basically, you just keep moving up a half-step on the
D MajorD string,
starting
with a regular
A augmentedA Major chord.
Same if you're playing it on a piano. Start with an
A augmentedA (A-C#-E), and
keep
moving the
E MajorE up a half-step..
Then:
Bm7Bm7 (x24232)
A/C#A/C# (x42220)
D MajorD (xx0232)
One more thing:
Before the second chorus (at about 2:03 in the recording), there's a
cool
harmony guitar lick..it's about a second long, so not the easiest
thing
to try and transcribe, but heres a shot. I wish I had a second
guitarist
here so I could see if these two parts sound anything close to what
I hear in the song.
Guitar 1:
E----------------------------------------------------------------
B----------------------5----------------------------------------
G---2h4p2---------------------------------------------------
D---------------4p2-------------------------------------------
A----------------------------------------------------------------
E----------------------------------------------------------------
Guitar 2:
E----------------------------------------------------------------
B----------------------------------------------------------------
G--------------------------6------------------------------------
D---4h5p4----------------------------------------------------
A----------------7p5-------------------------------------------
E----------------------------------------------------------------
It's a really fast lick as you'll hear in the song. If you have
another
guitar player, to try play those in harmony, and let me know if it's
close.
