Solo:

He improvises the solo in this.
You have a couple options for scales:

D Blues: (Two Octaves)

 |D  F  G  |G# A  C  |D  F  G  |G# A  C  |
G|------------|--------5---|7---10--12--|13--14--17--|?
D|--------5---|6---7-------|------------|------------|?
A|5---8-------|------------|------------|------------|?
E|------------|------------|------------|------------|?
 |1 + 2 + 3 + |1 + 2 + 3 + |1 + 2 + 3 + |1 + 2 + 3 + |

 |D  C  A  |Ab G  F  |D  C  A  |Ab G  F  |D      |
G|19--17--14--|13--12------|------------|------------|------------||?
D|------------|--------15--|12--10------|------------|------------||?
A|------------|------------|--------12--|11--10------|------------||?
E|------------|------------|------------|--------13--|10----------||
? |1 + 2 + 3 + |1 + 2 + 3 + |1 + 2 + 3 + |1 + 2 + 3 + |1 + 2 + 3 + |

Notice that the ascending version is different than the descending version.
D Minor: (Two Octaves)

G|------------|------------|5---7---9---|10--12--14--|
?D|------------|5---7---8---|------------|------------|
?A|5---7---8---|------------|------------|------------|
?E|------------|------------|------------|------------|?
 |1 + 2 + 3 + |1 + 2 + 3 + |1 + 2 + 3 + |1 + 2 + 3 + |

 |Bb C  D  |C  Bb A  |G  F  E  |D  C  Bb |
G|15--17--19--|17--15--14--|12----------|------------|?
D|------------|------------|----15--14--|12--10------|
?A|------------|------------|------------|--------13--|
?E|------------|------------|------------|------------|
? |1 + 2 + 3 + |1 + 2 + 3 + |1 + 2 + 3 + |1 + 2 + 3 + |

 |A  G  F  |E  D    |
G|------------|------------||
?D|------------|------------||
?A|12--10------|------------||
?E|--------13--|12--10------||?
 |1 + 2 + 3 + |1 + 2 + 3 + |

Notice again that the ascending version is different than the descending version.

Knowing how to play the same scale in more than one way will allow you to come up with different ideas. it will also help you become more familiar with the notes on your fretboard.

Knowing how to play a scale in more than one octave will open up the fret board and get you out of playing in one area of the neck.
