Severed Lips (J. Mascis)
from Japan import "Quest" and acoustic version from
the Goodier Session (1992)
This song sounds great on acoustic and is easy to learn.
This is in the key of G. The bass line walks make this song.
General Chord progression: Cmaj7, C, G, Em, F, Am, C, D MajorD
Intro : 4 measures: Cmaj7-C, Cmaj7-C, Cmaj7-C-D-C-Cmaj7 walk, G+G

** upstroke on Cmaj7, down on Cs; G+G timing is slightly off beat for bass line.
In transition to chorus, instead of
A--------2
E--3-2-3--
Try:
A---------
E--3-3-2-1
This walks nicely into the Em.
Chorus:
I wont cry if you walk bye........

E minorEm FF FF F* Ami Ami C majorC D MajorD Ami
Play this part twice during chorus. On second time throug chords, this
sounds real nice if you play each succesive chord louder so that the
tension builds
to a climax at Ami and then you pause and go back to Cmaj7-C verse.
This F* chord is not exact, sounds like C/DC/D combo but I am not sure
what it is so I cheat by holding the FF which works in the key.
Suggestions would be appreciated.
Nice transition that J plays; really impresses your friends!:
The transition includes some real simple eighth note picking
that goes from C majorC to G+G and walk down to C/Cmaj7:
B---------------3/5-5-5-5-5-5-3-1-0-1-0
G---0-0------------------------------
D-------2-0--------------------------
G+G G MajorG
Complete transition to be played after chorus & before return to verse:
E---0--0--0--0--0--0----------------------------------
B---0--0--1--0--1--0------------3/5-5-5-5-5-3-1-0-1-0
G---0--0--0--0--0--0-0-0------------------------------
D---2--------2----------2-0-0-------------------------

The last time I listend to D MajorD jrs first album, I noticed that some
of the lyrics are different on the electric version.
