This is the live version from So Much Shouting, So Much Laughter, which is far better
than the album version. It has a different rhythm so beware!
It is played with a capo on the 2nd fret, but for simplicity I’ll post without capo
transpositions.
Em: 022000 or (E2): 075007
G: 320030 or 320000
C: x32000 or (C2): 870080
D: xx0200 or (D2): 10/9/0/0/10/0
A: x02200 or (A2): 540050
Right lets start
(I’ll notate the basic inflections, but please fill in the rhythm yourself)
Intro & Chorus:
(hammer and pulls with little finger)
E minorEm G+G C2 D2
-----0------------0-------0---0h10p0-9p0-0h7-
-----0-0---0h3----8------10-------------------
--0----0---0------0-------0-------------------
--2--------0------0-------0-------------------
--2--------2------7-------9------------------
--0--------3------8------10------------------
Em2(*hamon) G+G C2 D2
------7(7*)-------------(8s9p0)-------0---/
--0----0(7*)--0h3-----8-------(p0)----10--/
--0-----0(7*)---0-----0---------------0---/
--5-------------0-----0---------------0---/
--7-------------2-----7---------------9---/
--0-------------3-----8---------------10--/
The verses are far simpler:
I am not a pretty girl, that’s not what I do,
(D2) E minorEm G+G C majorC D MajorD
I ain’t no damsel in distress, and I don’t need
E minorEm G+G C majorC
to be rescued.
D MajorD
So put me down punk, I am not a maiden fair,
E minorEm G+G C majorC D MajorD
and I am not a kitten stuck a tree somewhere!
A(or A2) C(or C2)
And so on, the other verses are similar, but listen out nuances and differing lengths.
Have fun with the hammer and pull, I promise it is possible, and sounds great with a capo!
