Tabs
Ry Cooder: "Klan Meeting", from the album "Music by Ry Cooder"
Tabbed by Kim Saur
This is not an exact version. It has the essence, and
I think this tab has all you need to know to play Klan Meeting.
Make it your own.
It is played on an acoustig steel string guitar with a
slide, preferably glass. Play relaxed.
Tuning: F-C-F-C-F-C (from standard tuning, raise 1. & 2. a step,
lower 3. & 4. two steps, lower 5. & 6. four steps)
🏷Legends used are
/ slide up
\ slide down
= sustain note
~ vibrato
p pull off
h hammer on
The first two minutes goes something like this:
C----------------------------------------------------
F---/5===------/3=---\-p0=----------------------0==--
C---/5===------/3=---\-p0=----/5==----/3-\-0==--0==--
F---/5===------/3=---\-p0=----/5==----/3-\-0==-------
C-----------------------------/5==----/3-\-0==-------
F----------------------------------------------------
The figure above is repeated two times, where the second time
it is played a lot more quiet and relaxed. Take your time,
dont rush it.
In between, the "riffs" below are played here and there.
C---------------------------------------------------------
F------------------------------------------and--3=/5~~----
C---------------------------------------------------------
F---------------------------------------------------------
C-----0-/3-p0==--------------0-/3p0-/5~~------------------
F--/3---------------and---/3------------------------------
C---------------------------------------------------------------------
F---------------------------------------------------------------------
C---------0-/3p0-/5~~----and-/3-/3-/3-0----0==---and-----0------------
F--and-/3-------------------------------/3-------------0--------------
C----------------------------------------------------0----------------
F---------------------------------------------------------------------
After the bluesy section, play variations of the following theme:
C---------------------------------------------------------------------
F-----0h4/5~~-5\4~-4-0h4p0-----0--------------0-----------------------
C--------------------------4/5---4/5-4-0-----------0------------------
F-------------------------------------------0---4/5-------------------
C-0-------------------------------------------------0-----------------
F---------------------------------------------------------------------
If you understand this, you also get all of it. At least I think this
is all you need to know. Remember to relax and dont get tense and
busy. The slides are mostly done very slow and emphasized. In the
quiet sections orthe silences between the riffs, i usually pick
on the open 2., 3. and 5. strings to replace the drone sounds on
the recording, but relatively quiet.
Good luck!
