1. First, here's the story behind the song:
* "I Have Decided To Follow Jesus" is a Christian hymn originating from Assam, in north-east India.
* The lyrics are based on the last words of a man of hindu background who became a disciple of Jesus Christ.
* The man came to believe in Jesus after a Welsh missionary brought the Gospel to him in the 19th century.
* The village chief of the place where he lived called him to renounce his faith or be killed.
* The man prefered to die rather than to deny Christ. His wife was killed and he became a martyr.
* He was proclaiming the lyrics of this song while being executed.
* The composition of the hymn is attributed to the Indian missionary Sadhu Sundar Singh (1889-1929).
* American hymnist William Jensen Reynolds made a notable arrangement of this hymn in 1959.
* Reynold's version was popularized during Billy Graham's crusades and it's the most spread version.
* The Spanish version of this hymn is called "He decidido seguir a Cristo."
