The Island chords by Paul Brady

Guitar chords with lyrics

The Island by Paul Brady - recorded by Dolores Keane among others, a beautiful song

-- I play this very simply - On the 'hey don't listen' line, I tend to play the 'hey' G with a single strum
followed by the G7 on 'me', a single strum, and then sing the 'this wasn't to be no' with no
accompaniment before coming in on the C for 'sad song' - it works for me!

               G D G
They say the skies of Lebanon are burning
                G D G
Those mighty cedars bleeding in the heat
                    G D G
They're showing pictures on the television
            G D G
Women and children dying in the street
               C
And now we're just the same in our own place
                  G D G
Still trying to reach the future through the past, Still tryin' to
  C
Carve tomorrow from a tombstone
     G G7 C
But hey don't listen to me, This wasn't meant to be no sad song
                 D G
We've heard too much of that before
                         D Am C D G
Right now I only want to be here with you 'til the morning dew comes falling

            G D G
I know us plain folks don't see all the story

I know that peace and love's just copping out
                G D G
I guess those young boys dying in the ditches

Will bring us all together in the end
         C C
