Verse:

Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramA augmentedA Chord diagramG+G
We were sitting in the living room on the sofa, the wrong way round, looking out the window
Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramG+G Chord diagramD MajorD
It was quiet, and then in the car park across the road we saw Elvis:
             Chord diagramA augmentedA
"Look, there beside the postman's van"
      N.C.
And he was walking round the postman's van
Chord diagramD MajorD
Looking in the open door
Chord diagramA augmentedA Chord diagramG+G Chord diagramD MajorD
He looked as if he was thinking about getting in but then the postman came back
Chord diagramG+G
 And he swaggered off
Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramA augmentedA
Walked past the window and down the stairs
                                  N.C.
And then at the bottom of the stairs right by the caretaker's office
N.C.
He started licking the pavement
Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramG+G
Every night now since we moved in that new house
      Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramG+G
There's this noise outside the door at just about
      Chord diagramD MajorD
Half seven or eight o'clock every night
Chord diagramA augmentedA
And if we go and look outside the door
Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramA augmentedA
Elvis'll be standing there waiting to be let in
Chord diagramG+G Chord diagramD MajorD
And then he wanders into the living room
          Chord diagramG+G
Maybe sits down on one of the chairs
    Chord diagramD MajorD
Or even lies down on the floor
Chord diagramA augmentedA Chord diagramB minorBm
He doesn't say much, he just stays there for an hour or two, watching the TV
Chord diagramB minorBm
We talk to him a bit (aaaaah)
          Chord diagramG+G
And then around ten o'clock (aaaaah)
Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramA augmentedA
he'll go away again and not come back until the next night (aaaaah)
Chord diagramB minorBm
There's a lot of lanes and stuff around here, around the house (aaaaah)
Chord diagramG+G Chord diagramD MajorD
Although it's right in the middle of the city it seems quite like the country - it's dead hidden (aaaaah)
                Chord diagramA augmentedA
Safe I suppose, made for night living (aaaaah)
Chord diagramA augmentedA
There's a lot of squirrels and birds
Chord diagramA augmentedA
And Stuart says he's seen about nine foxes there
             Chord diagramG+G
When he's jumped over the fence on his way to Byres Road
Chord diagramD MajorD
Sometimes you can go out walking
                     Chord diagramA augmentedA
And when you've been out for a wee while even you don't know where you are anymore
Chord diagramA augmentedA
So it would be pretty hard for anyone else to find you
          Chord diagramG+G Chord diagramD MajorD
I suppose that's - that's why he spends so much time there that's why he's come to live there
Chord diagramD MajorD
Or maybe it's just the squirrels
Chord diagramD MajorD N.C.
I read about somewhere that he likes squirrels quite a lot
Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramA augmentedA Chord diagramG+G
There's these two videos that we got for wedding presents
           Chord diagramD MajorD
Called the e-files, e-files one and e-files two
Chord diagramG+G Chord diagramD MajorD
About how Elvis is supposed to be still alive
Chord diagramA augmentedA
And one time when he came round we were watching one of those
Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramA augmentedA
But he didn't say anything he just sat on the armchair
     Chord diagramG+G Chord diagramD MajorD
He was playing with his collar a bit, and we watched it right through
Chord diagramG+G Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramA augmentedA
And then when it finished he just got up and walked off into the mist and didn't say anything
              Chord diagramB minorBm
The first few times he came round I didn't speak to him at all (aaaaah)
Chord diagramG+G
I wasn't really sure what to say (aaaaah)
            Chord diagramD MajorD
And Karen spoke to him quite a lot - she seemed to know what to do more than I do (aaaaah)
    Chord diagramA augmentedA
He had quite a strange manner though, he'd go into your stuff (aaaaah)
     Chord diagramB minorBm Chord diagramG+G
and look through it, then he'd maybe pick something up and play with it for a wee while
Chord diagramG+G
But he'd never make any comment about any of it
Chord diagramD MajorD
Seemed pretty rude to me
            Chord diagramG+G
I just watched whatever Karen did, and listened to how she talked to him and then
 Chord diagramD MajorD
After a while I started to copy that
          Chord diagramG+G
And tell him a few things
                            Chord diagramD MajorD
Not really bothered about whether he responded or said anything back or not
 Chord diagramG+G
I think the first time I spoke to him we were sitting up on the mezzanine
Chord diagramD MajorD
And I said that I would tell him about me and wee Karen
Chord diagramG+G
And how it was that we'd come to be living there
           Chord diagramD MajorD
I thought he probably liked the fact that we were living there because he came round so much
   Chord diagramG+G
so
I thought he might want to know how it was that it came about
Chord diagramD MajorD
We did it all over backwards
I told him (aaaaah)
Chord diagramG+G
First of all we got to know each other and then a while after that we met (aaaaah)
Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramG+G
And when we'd known each other for bout seven years we decided to have an anniversary (aaaaah)
Chord diagramG+G
And that went quite well (aaaaah)
Chord diagramD MajorD
So after the anniversary we had a honeymoon (aaaaah)
Chord diagramG+G
And that went well too (aaaaah)
                       Chord diagramD MajorD
So after that we decided that we would get married (aaaaah)
Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramG+G
That's why we're living there now (aaaaah)
Chord diagramD MajorD
I used to think my dad was Elvis (aaaaah)
Chord diagramG+G Chord diagramD MajorD Chord diagramG+G Chord diagramD MajorD
But I haven't told him that yet. I haven't told my dad either (aaaaah)
