Over The Mountain by Ozzy Osbourne

Solo tabs

Recorded By Randy Rhoads,Ozzy Osbourne,Lee Kerslake and Bob Daisley in 1981 off of the Diary Of Chord diagramA augmentedA Madman album.

Ok I am going to be as exact as I can with this tab, and I am providing a way to play the solo and make it sound IDENTICAL to the album!

Ok here is the Black Sabbath intro part of the solo:
             PM-----
e|----------------------------------------------|
Chord diagramBB|---------------8~----------------------8------|
Chord diagramG+G|---------------X---7~---5-4-3----------X---7~-|
Chord diagramD MajorD|pickslide--6~--6~--X----X-X-X--3/--6~--6~--X--|
Chord diagramA augmentedA|pickslide--X-------5~---3-2-1--X---X-------5~-|
Chord diagramE MajorE|pickslide--4~------------------1/--4~---------|

Then add at the end:

e|-------|
Chord diagramBB|--11b--|
Chord diagramG+G|--X----|
Chord diagramD MajorD|--9----|
Chord diagramA augmentedA|-------|
Chord diagramE MajorE|-------|

I play this in octaves, because on the album Randy has 2 seperate guitar dubs each doing a different octave, so I play both octaves at the same time. The X in the middle of each octave means lightly lay your middle finger acrosse the middle string to mute it so you can strum the octave.
The reason this phrase sounds so scary is because after playing a octave higher after the first octave, the last octave he hits is a diminished 5th, the doom interval!!

Now here is the next part of the solo(The coolest part!) based off of beethoven:

e|------4-7-5p4----4----------------------------|
Chord diagramBB|----5----------7---7-5-4----4-----------------|
Chord diagramG+G|--6-----------------------6---6-4---4---------|
Chord diagramD MajorD|----------------------------------7---7-5-4--4|
Chord diagramA augmentedA|--------------------------------------------7-|
Chord diagramE MajorE|----------------------------------------------|

Then add:

e|---------|
Chord diagramBB|---------|
Chord diagramG+G|---------|
Chord diagramD MajorD|---------|
Chord diagramA augmentedA|--7~-6~--|
Chord diagramE MajorE|---------|

Play this phrase twice and I should note that there is another guitar playing the same thing one octave higher, but in order to play this part exact you have to have a harmonizer and set it to harmonize 1 octave. This lick starts out being based off of a Chord diagramC#C# Minor 7th Arpeggio and then goes into a Chord diagramC#C# Minor scale.

The next part of the solo is based off of a Chord diagramG#G# Blues scale

e|------------------------------------------16-19
Chord diagramBB|----------------------------------16-18-19----|
Chord diagramG+G|------------------------16-18-19--------------|
Chord diagramD MajorD|--------------16-18-19------------------------|
Chord diagramA augmentedA|------16-17-18--------------------------------|
Chord diagramE MajorE|16-19-----------------------------------------|

That leads into the string pulling part(SP stands for string pull)

e|-19b-19~--16-16h19p16-------------------------|
Chord diagramBB|-----------------------16tr19-16tr19SP-16tr19S|
Chord diagramG+G|----------------------------------------------|
Chord diagramD MajorD|----------------------------------------------|
Chord diagramA augmentedA|----------------------------------------------|
Chord diagramE MajorE|----------------------------------------------|

Adjust the string pulling to your ear.

Ok that's the first half of the solo, after the first segment of the 2nd half, he just winged the rest of it.

Not so sure about this part:

e|--------7-10-8p7----7-------------------------|
Chord diagramBB|------8----------10---10-8-7----6-------------|
Chord diagramG+G|--9-9-------------------------9---9-6-----7---|
Chord diagramD MajorD|---------------------------------------10-----|
Chord diagramA augmentedA|--------------------------------------------10|
Chord diagramE MajorE|----------------------------------------------|

Don't take my word for it though.

Now here is THE EXCEEDINGLY fast part!!(Really play as fast as you can)

e|-3p2p0-----------------------3p2p0------------|
Chord diagramBB|--------3p2p0---------3p2p0--------3p2p0------|
Chord diagramG+G|---------------3p2p0---------------------3p2p0|
Chord diagramD MajorD|----------------------------------------------|
Chord diagramA augmentedA|----------------------------------------------|
Chord diagramE MajorE|----------------------------------------------|

Then play the 3p2p0 on the Chord diagramD MajorD string and play the 2nd fret on the Chord diagramA augmentedA string and immediatly dive your whammy bar down and slide up and release the bar as you play on the Chord diagramBB string 11h12p11.

This part you have to utilize the bar:

e|-----------------------------|
Chord diagramBB|--19WHAMMYDESTRUCTION19WD19WD|
Chord diagramG+G|-----------------------------|
Chord diagramD MajorD|-----------------------------|
Chord diagramA augmentedA|-----------------------------|
Chord diagramE MajorE|-----------------------------|

Then immediatly do this phrase:

e|------------------------------------------|
Chord diagramBB|-16tr19-16tr19-16tr19-16tr19-16tr19-16tr19|
Chord diagramG+G|------------------------------------------|
Chord diagramD MajorD|------------------------------------------|
Chord diagramA augmentedA|------------------------------------------|
Chord diagramE MajorE|------------------------------------------|

While play this gradually push your whammmy bar down and then play 16tr19 5 times while bringing the whammy bar up.

Ok the very end of the solo is unique and here it is:
          PM------------------------...

e|---------------------------------------------|
Chord diagramBB|---------------------------------------------|
Chord diagramG+G|0-------------------------------------------|
Chord diagramD MajorD|-----------------------7--6------------------|
Chord diagramA augmentedA|--------------------7--7--6------------------|
Chord diagramE MajorE|--------------------0--5--4--4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4..|

Ok the actual end of the solo is the 0-3 part. Ok with the 0 you dive down the bar quickly and then gradually bring it up and then hit a natural harmonic on the 3rd fret of the Chord diagramG+G string and shake the whammy bar around briefly which then leads back into the main riff.
KEY:

Pay close attention to the symbols in this solo as they are vital to the solo:

= Natural Harmonic
X= Lay finger across string to mute
PM= Palm-mute the notes with a ------- on top of it.
Tr=Trill(Hammer-on/Pull-off together)
WD= Whammy Destruction(Brutally shake whammy bar)
/=Slide to next note/chord
P=Pull-off
H=Hammer-on
~= Vibrato
b=Bend(use ear to tell how much)
Pickslide= Turn pick to it's side and slide it up the strings.
e= The highest string
B= The 2nd highest string
G= the 3rd highest string
D= The 3rd lowest string
A= The 2nd lowest string
E= The Lowest String

Hope this tab was helpful to you!
